    After the First English Civil war had ended, there was a search for a political and religious settlement. There was a lot of conflict between the Parliamentarians because they wanted to decide how the monarchy would be formed, religious freedom, and the New Model Army.

    The king was put on trial. He was later found guilty. The king was beheaded in Whitehall, on January 30th, 1649.
