    Old English (Anglo-Saxon Period): 450–1066

    Collects the literature written in Old English from the year 600 to 1066. The most important texts of the time are Beowulf, Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and the Exeter Book. A large number of texts from the Anglo-Saxon period are found both in Latin and in the vernacular, which began to be written after the Danish invasions, and King Alfred the Great strove to restore English culture.
