First Parliament
Called by King Edward I, it was considered as the first representative parliament. It was used to impose taxes on citizens to fund for future wars. -

Parliament gets "power of the purse"
The parliament now has to authorize what the king uses his money for. So the king has to ask the parliament instead of him deciding. -

Act of Supremacy
It was an English act of Parliament that recognized Henry VIII as the Supreme Head of the Church of England. -

Elizabeth I crowed
Elizabeth I is crowned king after the death of her half-sister. Sometimes called the Virgin Queen or Good Queen Bess.

Charles I Crowned
Son of James I, he dismisses parliament for needed funds against the war on Spain, made everyone hate him. -
English Civil War Begins
Recalled Parliament for needed funds against Scotland, then dismissed after 11 years, lost the war badly, then recalled, they had an argument on who was in control of the army. They had a civil war, the Parliament had the upper hand, and Charles retreats to Scotland, and the Scots give the Parliament the power. -
Charles I Excecuted
Parliament had him tried for treason, beheaded. -
Restoration
Return of Charles II becomes king after Oliver Cromwell, the monarch is restored. James II is crowned during this period. (1660 - 1685) -
James II Crowned
King of England and Scotland until 1701. Last Roman Catholic Monarch to rule England, Scotland, and Ireland. -
Glorious Revolution; William and Mary
Replaced James II with William of Orange, his daughter's husband, Mary. No one died during this time. -
English Bill of Rights
William and Mary had to agree to this document to become king and queen. It would limit the powers, enhances democracy, and strengthen freedom of speech. -
England gets its first prime minister and has a strong political party tradition
Robert Walpole is the first person to be prime minister. There was a new political party called the Labour Party.
