This passage is like a forshadowing to what happens later in the book. The inoccent snake slithers back and forth in the swam as the snake become more comfortable the heron plucks down and eats the snake. Lennie is like the small snake where he is inoccent but very scared and uncomfortable. When Lennie becomes more comfortable with George they begin to discuss their futures. All of a sudden George shots Lennie in the back of the head.
