Emu War Timeline¬Chloe

  • To explain

The former soldiers became farmers meaning they farmed wheat. The only downside was that these birds would come and destroy the crops like it was nothing. Now these Australian troops had just come from WW1 so of course instead of going to the minister of Agriculture, they went to the minister of Defence. And he, declared war on the birds! Leading to that disaster, of the emu war.
  • Before this mayhem

In 1928 around 30,000 emus were killed. Then they came back in 1932, destroying the farmland. This war had begun here.
  • The Impact on the environment

The birds continually ruined the wheat paddocks by destroying, eating, spoiling all the wheat. The fence that was supposed to keep wild rabbits out of the paddocks now has holes in it that welcome in the rabbits that were supposed to be kept out. Then around 986 of 20,000 emus were killed.
  • The impact on the people

I would assume(since I didn't really get that much info on this topic) that the emus destroying the wheat paddocks would affect the peoples self esteem since coming from WW1 and later on not winning any of the rounds nor the emu war.
  • Round two

They failed the fist time, just trying to round them into gunshot. So they tried again later that day when they spotted more birds. Managed to kill a dozen. The birds would figure this out one day
  • The Emu war starts

On an early morning 2nd of NOV 1932, the WA hot red dirt landscape between Perth to Kalgoorlie. Australian troops were gifted 2 Lewis machine guns, 2 gunmen and 10,000 bullets. They got these things after soldiers(now farmers) hated the Emus eating all their crops, so, since not trusting the Minister of Agriculture, phoned the Minister of defence. So when they saw about 50 birds. They killed around a dozen, announcing war on these birds. Starting the Emu war.
