    No treatment of EBD during this time. People were commonly thought to be possessed or witches if they were mentally ill in any way. People with these disorders were left on the streets or ended up in prison or an asylum.

    1543- England

    Henry VIII founded Hospital of St. Mary of Bethlehem, which was exclusively known to care for the mentally ill, what EBD was known as at this time. However, this resulted in confinement and horrible living conditions.

  • 1793- Paris, France

    Phillipe Pinel a director the Bicetre Asylum in Paris, begins implementing humane treatment to those who were considered mentally ill.
