  • 6.1a: My Family

Growing up, I lived with a blended family because my Dad has 3 kids and my Mom has 1 kid, which they both got married and had me. So, my Dad would get his kids on Wednesday and every other weekend and my Mom's kid lived with us and saw his step-dad every once in awhile. Now, it's just my Dad, Mom, brother, dog and I, even though my brother lives in Cleveland, OH and we live in Wyoming.
  • 6.1b: My Birth Order

I am the last born child in my family and our birth order doesn't affect our personality. My brother is the oldest, which he's more rebellious, liberal, and adult-oriented than I am. As for myself being the youngest, I am more conservative, helpful, agreeable, conforming, and intelligent. So, our birth order doesn't affect our personality because he might be the oldest, but he sure is more rebellious than I am because I learned from his mistakes.
  • 5.1a: Childhood Attachment

From 9 to 18 months, I was securely attached to my parents/caregivers. Even if my parents left the room, then come back to me when I was playing with toys, I was normally happy and positive about when they came back to me after doing whatever they needed to do for a short few minutes.
  • 4.3: Language

Late 1995 to early 1996, I learned my first and native language, English. My parents said my first word was probably Mom and Dad, which I said Mom and Dad late 1996. English is my first and native language because it's what my parents, siblings, grandparents and family know and grew up with. My parents were only given 1 of 2 options when they found out I became Hard of Hearing, which they choose Hearing over Deaf because they didn't want me to be any different from my siblings nor classmates.
  • 4.3b: Language

ASL is my second language learned, which I learned ASL summer of 2014 at JumpStart here at Gallaudet. My first word signed was bathroom, funny huh. As a hard of hearing person, I have the best of both worlds; English at home and ASL at school. I finally somewhat fit into a place where I belong to finish my education and softball career.
  • 4.1: My First Memory (1996)

    4.1: My First Memory (1996)
This isn't my first memory, but it's one of my first memories I can remember. This was probably summer of 1996 at my grandparents cabin in Aspley, Ontario, Canada. This was probably one of my first memories because ever since I was born, I have gone to Canada. Except the past 8 years because we moved to Wyoming and it's either to far of drive or too expensive to fly. But just going to the grandparents over the summer to relax from everything and enjoy family time was the greatest of all time.
  • 5.2a: Gender

Back when I was just discovering about my own gender and expression at the time, I was learning from myself and my parents about my own body and the private areas. I could dress like a tomboy or girly because my parents didn't really care, but raised me right. I sometimes chose tomboy over girly because I was always athletic and wanted to take part in all the recess games, etc.
  • 4.2: Intelligence

Bodily-kinesthetic - Because I'm an athlete and excel at softball and keep learning more and more about the game and staying fit and active too. Probably 1998 or 1999 is when I became bodily-kinesthetic because my parents could try and never get me to stay indoors, in fact I have always been an outdoors child. During that time, the neighbor kids and I would always play kickball, baseball, you name it and ever since then I have been active, fit, and heathy.
  • 6.2: Learning Disability

My learning disability is being hard of hearing and testing anxiety. This affects me because on a daily basis I wear my hearing aids to hear and communicate with everyone around me. Testing anxiety affect me because I get really nervous before taking tests and second guess myself on questions, which I'm learning to just go with my choice of an answer. Through elementary to high school, I always had an IEP to help me be successful through school with my strengths and weaknesses.
  • 3.1b My Health

So, for 3 months I was unable to do much outside and play with friends, let me tell you it was rough being stuck inside for those 3 months because I was an outdoors and still do love my outdoors. So, I wasn't ill, but my health was good, minus the part of a broken left foot and then Summer of 2005 I sprained my right ankle with no hospital visit required.
  • 3.1 My Health

It was a hot, humid, and normal August 2004, when school was almost out for the day and I was in 5th grade. We had like 30 mins before it was time to pack up and go home for the day, when our 5th grade teachers took us outside to play games. I was playing something similar to tag and while I was running my foot went outward and started hurting. My Mom was there to pick me up and a couple of the neighbor kids, which I complained to her about my foot hurting and asked ...
  • 3.1a My Health

if she could carry my backpack. Of course she said no and there was no fuss about it. It was a normal evening after school; get home, finish homework, play outside, eat dinner, and as dinner was finished and dishes put away, I screamed and cried because I had just taken off my shoes and socks to go take a shower, which my left foot had huge bruised bump on the top of it. So, Mom and Dad looked at each other and said "We're going to the ER to get it looked at and cast, hopefully."
  • 6.3a: Impacted by Death

Fall 2012, just starting my first year of college, I lost my Grammy Beatrice. After hearing the news from my Aunt and Mom, it hit me hard and still doesn't feel real to this day. I was in denial and mourned her death for a long time, because the holidays were hard without her there with us and still don't feel real.
  • 3.2b Older Adult Health

The only thing we could figure out about Dad's heart going back in rhythm was the high elevation on the plane and going into Cleveland or the scary thought that Dad could've had to get surgery. So, we're really, really thankful my Dad is still going strong with his heart in rhythm and like a normal cool working Dad.
  • 3.2 Older Adult Health

2012 was a rough year for my parents, family and I. My Dad was diagnosis with his heart in A-fib, so for 2 long years it was nothing but jumping his heart back in rhythm and 2 ablation, to hopefully stay in rhythm. But nothing worked long enough though. It was scary and nerve whacking everyday. Prior to March 2014, Mom had scheduled Dad an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH to see a heart doctor to tell us how and what to do to get Dad's heart back in rhythm.
  • 3.2a Older Adult Health

Of course Mom and Dad flew to Cleveland, which the next day Dad got an EKG done and he was like "Let me guess, I'm in a-fib!" The nurse looked at my parents said, "No, you're in rhythm." Eventually the doctor came in and talked to my parents, but ever since then my Dad's heart has been rhythm and keep hoping it will stay in rhythm too.
  • 5.1b: Adult Attachment

The form of adult attachment I have formed with my boyfriend is secure attachment style. We have secure attachment style because we're positive about our relationship, are really close to each other and can tell each other anything, not overly concerned or stressed out about anything, and truly love each other so much. We have our space from each other, but when we finally see each other again, we're both overly happy and tell each other we missed one another throughout the day too.
  • 5.2: Identity

A time of my identity crisis was last year, when I fully committed myself to the Education program and wanting to be an inspiring teacher for Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students. I belong to the identity achievement group because I have gone through different crisis, made commitments, know what I want in life, and how to conquer and succeed at life.
  • 1.2: The Present

My biological process has changed throughout the years, from being a newborn to a junior at Gallaudet University majoring in Elementary Education and continuing my softball career too. Going from newborn to 5'5", slowly throughout the years. My motor skills have also changed dramatically too and not being that really shy girl as much anymore.
  • 1.3: The Present

My social age is most likely on point but through school, I have always been shy and never talked much to my peers, but outside of school I am very social to others. As for my physiological age, most people would find mature for my age and how I act towards peers because I take care of others when they're partying and drunk. And my biological age, I am probably younger than 22 because I am very active and like to stay moving and actively fit.
  • 1.1: The Present

Hi, I'm Emily Nicole Walters and I am going to tell about myself chronologically. I was born a year and a day later after my parents were married, January 24, 1994. I am the youngest of 5 kids, but my Dad has 3 kids (Kristi, Steven and Rachel) and my Mom has 1 kid (Brandon), then my parents had me. I was born and raised 14 years in Ohio, but lived in West Virginia for a year and the past 7 years in Wyoming. I am an adventurous and love seeing new things person.
  • 5.3b: Sexuality

My own romantic attraction might be different from someone else, but I am straight and have fallen in love with a man. We both felt that emotional response to our romantic attraction and still feel it to this day and son on. As for sexual orientation, it's kind of the same, but led me to the opposite sex to fall in love, feel attraction to him, and want a relationship that will last a long time too.
  • 2.1 Fertility

Since my spouse and I are having difficulties getting pregnant, the steps we'll take to help us get pregnant are: paying attention to dominant-recessive genes. One of us is brown/dark-haired, while the other is dark blonde/light brown-haired, is it possibly to get a blonde-haired child? Yes, because both of us are dominant genes for brown hair and recessive genes for blond hair.
  • 2.1a Fertility

Another problem might be sex-linked genes, meaning males only have one X chromosome and one Y chromosome, while females have 2 X chromosomes. The period of prenatal development starts with the germinal period, which happens within the first two weeks after conception, which includes the creation of the fertilized egg (zygote), cell division, and the attachment of the zygote to the uterus wall.
  • 2.1d Fertility

If all fails, adoption might be the way to go for now and try again in a couple of years and maybe our dreams of having our kids will happen then. No kids here, well not till I graduate Gallaudet in Spring 2018 and after I get a jumpstart on my Education career.
  • 2.1b Fertility

Embryonic period is from two to eight weeks after conception. The rate of cell differentiation intensifies, which support systems for cells form, and organs appear in this period. The fetal period normally lasts about seven months, which can extend from two months after conception until birth in most pregnancies. Growth and development continue their dramatic course in this period.
  • 2.1c Fertility

But we normally hear about the three trimesters, but there's actually four trimesters which the mother is changing back to the pre-pregnant stage in the fourth trimester. The parental diagnostic tests are getting so much more cooler now with all the technology coming out daily. There's ultrasound sonography and 3-D ultrasounds and fetal MRI to make sure the baby(babies) are doing perfectly fine and waiting for their due date to make their presence into the world.
  • 6.3b: My Death

For my own death and funeral, I think I would like to be buried, but it all depends on where I'm at; if I'm in my home state Ohio or if I'm out of the state of Ohio. I would like my family and friends to mourn my death either way because I want them to celebrate my life for who I am and my success in life and know how much I loved my family and friends and passion through life.
