First intermediate period
At the end of the 6th Dynasty, there was no longer a central government of note and Egypt
entered a period of social unrest and reformation known as The First Intermediate period
during which Egypt was ruled regionally by local magistrates who made and enforced their
own laws. -
2050 BCE
Middle kingdom
New cities were buit. The capital was in Thebes -
1800 BCE
Second Intermediate Period
This era is marked by a divided Egypt with the people known as the Hyksos holding power in
the north, Egyptian rule at Thebes in the center of the country, and Nubians ruling in the
south. As with the First Intermediate Period, this time is traditionally characterized as chaotic,
lacking in cultural advancements, and lawless, but as with the earlier period, this claim has
been discredited. The Second Intermediate Period was a time of disunity and records of the
time are confused or missing. -
1580 BCE
New Kingdom
Egypt conquered Lybia and Syria. Large Temples were built. Akhenaten, Tutankhamun, Ramses II were important pharaohs. Te capital moved from one city to another several times. -
