Attendance has been made mandatory in all public elementary schools in the country. Each state has their own laws for attendance, but generally it is required. Teaches students time management -
Free/Reduced Lunches
Schools all over the nation have changed their lunch programs in a way that allows low-income students to each lunch at a reasonable cost or in some cases, free. Every kid deserves to eat, and this gave everyone the opportunity to. -
Sputnik
With the release of Sputnik, over 1 billion dollars was given to public schools to expand STEM programs. This gave schools more money to take programs to a new level.. maybe incorporate science field trips or help teach math in a more effective way using new resources. -
NCLB
Set standards for students to pass standardized tests and give disadvantaged students the same opportunities as advantage students. Which affects my educational philosophy because we need to teach students material to help them in the real world, not to pass a test. -
Internet
Every single school in America officially gained access to internet this year. The internet was invented in the mid 90's, but it took about 9 years for all schools to have access. -
Red for Ed
800,000 students missed school while Arizona teachers walked out for better pay and better funding. They got their 20% raise they asked for (by 2020) and got over the 150,000 signatures needed to put InvestInEd on the ballot. But the government took it off because of the "failure to state what the act intended". In the end, the teachers got their raise but no additional funding for the students.
