Education Act
Also known as the Butler act promised 'secondary education for all' the act attempted to achieve this goal by raising the school leaving age and dividing the all-age elementary education into primary and secondary schools. -
Tripartite System
The tripartite system looked into having three types of state schools. The new 'modern' schools would be for working-class children 'whose future employment will not demand any measure of technical skill or knowledge' -
The Crowther Report
Recommended raising the education leaving age to 16 years. It also recommended more vocational courses for students. -
Newsom Report
The newsom report outlined the differences between schools, areas and the ability of it pupils. But it also stated that there was a huge difference between schools and funding provided. -
circular 10/65
The Circulr 10/65 was introduced with a bold statement which was to end thr selction process at 11 plus but also stop seperation in secondary schools. -
Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE)
The CSE was introduced as a way for pupils who left school to have atleast have a qualification for there education -
Plowden Report
Although it mainly focused on primary education the plowden report looked into education and its relation to wider society, and in particular, the need to respond appropriately to each individual pupil’s interests. -
School Leaving Age Raised
The school leaving age raised to 16. -
Manpower Services Commision
The manpower services comminsion was put into place to try and help with the growing number of youth unemployment with youth training schemes. -
Sex Discrimination Act
The sex discrimination act was introduced to protect people from discrimination due to their sex. -
Race Relations Act
Just like the Sex discrimintation act the race relations act was introduced to stop discrimination of individuals due to their race. -
Warnock Report
The Warner Report was created to help with the education act and stated that all children categoriesed as having special needs have the right to special provision and to recieve them, and imposed a corresponding duty on their Local Authorities to provide it. -
Education Act
The 1981 education act was the first legislation which imposed a duty on schools to provide support and provisions for children who have special educational needs. These provision would be provided to help the children to flourish. -
City Technology Collges
City technology colleges were funded by local industries for students ages 11-18. They provided both vocational and academic curriculum -

Change from O level and CSE to GCSE's
The exam system started to change in 1986 with teaching commencing for the GCSE exam which was firstly taken in the 1988. -
Task Group on Assesment and Testing
Chaired by Paul black. Targets and assesment levels were set up for each subject and schools were provided with the information to know where pupils from different year groups should be at level wise. -
Education Reform Act
SATS were introduced as a way of testing the ages 7,11 and 14 on the core subjects. -
Establishment of OFSTED
OFSTED was established to monitor schools performance but individually inspect school for their teaching and equality standards. -
The Dearing Review
Was set up apposing the national curriculum as it felt it should be slimmed down and that 14-19 year olds should be offered more vocational course. -

Disability Discrimination Act
The disability and discrimination act made it unlawful to discriminate against anyone due to their disabilities. -
Education Act
The act stated that class room sizes needed to be made smaller however there was no money to cover the cost of all the new teachers needed to make the classrooms smaller. -
Homework Guidelines Released
Homework guidelines were released stating how much homework certain ages of children should get each day. -

Raising Standards and Tackling Workload
Was introduced to remove tasks such as exam invidulating by teachers but also introduced PPA which was planning preperation and assesment time for teachers. -
Every Child Matters
ECM was set up as a way to explain to schools and LEA's what is expected of them and is there to protect children by providing support and help. -
National Strategy for Secondary Education
Introduction of whole class teaching but also the use of one-to-one tuition. It also stated that ICT needed to be incorporated within lessons linking the use to home.
It also focused on personalised learning and how to get both pupils and parents involved. -

Academies Act
Made it possible for public funded schools to become academies but still be publicly funded. This would allow them to make changes to wages and the national curriculum within their school. -
University Tuition Fees Increased
Tution fees increased from £3,000 to up to £9,000 a year. -
