The Department of Education
This program was created by President Andrew Johnson and was designed to collect information and statistics about the nation's schools. Even know funds are very little, they never strayed off their original path which is to help promote achievement for upcoming students.

The Progressive Education Association
During this period of time, educators believed children needed to understand their responsibilities to society since they will be future participants of the world. They started to understand children need an actual education to make it through life, which is why they created the seven principles.

SAT first administered
The SAT was based on a test called Army Alpha, which is an IQ test for the US Army. Granted there have been some changes over the years for the benefit of the school systems all across the country.

Brown vs The Board of Education
This Supreme Court Case took place in Topeka, Kansas and lasted from December 9, 1952- May 17, 1954. It was about ending segregation in school systems which made history in stepping forward in the right direction.

National Defense Education Act (NDEA)
President Dwight D. Eisenhower passed a law to help provide postsecondary education throughout the country. The point of this law was to help improve science and technology education, so we could compete with the Soviet Union in the Space Race. The Space Race lasted all the way to the destruction of the Berlin Wall in 1989.

Improving America's Schools Act (IASA)
Students benefit from this because the school system is trying to help you out by conforming to your way of learning. It teaches you leadership, professional development, and many more traits you will need for adulthood. It also includes programs that will help assist disadvantaged students to reach their fullest potential.

Columbine School Massacre
This was an attack on a high school at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado. 2 students at this high school killed 12 students, 1 teacher, and each other all in 49 minutes. After this day, the education system changed its protocols, safety programs, and communication.

No Child Left Behind
In 2002, President Bush signed a law for the education system that will hold the school accountable for student success in the classroom. This law has been revised over the years to accommodate modern changes. This bill replaces the Bilingual Education Act of 1968 and reauthorizes the ESEA of 1965.

Alabama becomes the first state " to require public schools to check the immigration status" of students
In the state of Alabama, public schools are required to see your birth certificate or some sort of documentation to see if you are legal in the United States. This system does not block enrollment for the child but helps the state track the number of students that are not from the United States.

Sandy Hook Shooting
This elementary school in Connecticut was shot up by a 20-year-old male who killed 20 children, 6 adults, his mother, and his self. After this tragic day, we made more precautions and started a new program to help people feel safe.
