Home Check-Ins
Massachusettes officials made sure that all kids were getting an education and were learning to read so they could understand religion and laws. This was the start of modern day truancy. It is important that kids are going to school to learn not only academics but how to succeed in life. If kids aren't aren't going parents should be pushing them to go. The responsibility comes down to the parents just as it does the kids, and there needs to be consequences for those that aren't showing up. -
Public High School
Of all the types of schools that have been and evolved over the years, I believe that the public high school was the most important. The public high school offered many subjects rather than just learning English in school exposing students to so many topics, which helps them find something they are interested in. High school is such a growing point for students, it transforms them from kids into young adults preparing them for the rest of their lives. -
Brown Vs. Board of Education
The case was a step not only for education but as well as equality. It allowed for all kids to be able to go to one school and be together in the same class depsite race. I believe this was important for the self-esteem of the kids, as well as educating everyone. If we didn't have this case who knows if African Americans would have education opportunities today. One thing that came from this case is being fair and giving everyone an equal education, which is a huge part of today's education goal. -
Special Education
What is now known as IDEA, made it possible for all children to be able to attend school no matter their mental or physical standing. This allowed for all kids to be a part of something, get into a routine, make friends and teach them skills to succeed in life. Kids with disabilities are now able to feel included in the normality of going to school like all the other students around them, where if the act and law didn't exist it is hard to know where disabled kids would be today. -
Common Core Standards
No matter where you live, where you move or how you are taking classes the content that is being learned is the same. This makes it easier for students, parents, and teachers. It is consistent and ensures that all students are learning the same material in order to succeed once they move onto further education. It puts all students from the states at an even point when leaving high school and moving forward to college as they were all expected to learn the same content.
