1944 Education Act
Rab Butler (Conservative) was appointed President of the Board of Education in the summer of 1941. (Butler) Education Act:
Every county and county borough would be LEA for its area.
Nationwide system of free, compulsory schooling from age 5 to 15. (raised to 16 ASAP)

1976 Education Act
Principle behind the act was to abolish selection into secondary schools but no legal requirement. -
The National Curriculum 5-16
Introduction of the National Curriculum
Replaced the School Curricuum of 1981 which set out some guildines for approches to the school curriculum. -
1988 Education Reform Act
Gave power to the secretary of state (Kenneth Baker)
Provided a basic curriculum, set attainment targets and a program of study.
Attempt to include selction subtely (grant maintained schools) -

Subject to a relativley broad range of subjects although literacy and numeracy recieved daily (in line with the National Strategies of 98 and 99).
1997 White Paper Excellence in Schools sees class sizes
reduced below 30 for five, six and seven year olds.
Teachers allowed for a very positive educational experience and learning was made as engaging as possible.
Science practically limited.

Walsall Academy!
School had only been opened a year ago after becoming an academy from formerly being TP Riley considered to be 'failing'.
March 2000 Blunkett announced intention for academies to be built.
Independent schools yet publicly funded.
