Education for the Disabled Student
Before 1975, students who were deemed problem students behaviorally or disabled, were institutionalized. They did not receive an education. It was believed that these students simply could not learn. The Education for All Handicapped Children Act
An act that implemented a free, appropriate, public education for all disabled children in the least restrictive environment. Suddenly the lives of these children became different! They became socially involved with others and were able to learn. It did not stop there. Students attended college and prospered. -

Early Childhood Intervention
Early Intervention was an important beginning for catching disabilities early in children's lives. Infant programs and toddler programs needed trained teachers to focus on the development of children and to intervene as early as possible when something was not right. The Federal government provided this for every child. -

Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
In practice, IDEA is composed of six main elements that illuminate its main points. These six elements are: Individualized Education Program (IEP); Free and Appropriate Public Education (FAPE); Least Restrictive Environment (LRE); Appropriate Evaluation; Parent and Teacher Participation; and Procedural Safeguards. -
