    My birth
The day I came into this world
  • Began preschool

I had trouble learning my alphabet at home so my mother sent me to preschool to learn. This was a milestone for me because it was the first time I ever went to school. My older sister learned her alphabet well at home so she did not attend preschool but went to Kindergarten when she was five.
  • Kindergarten

I do distinctly remember learned to read through phonics. My teachers would hold up sound cards and literacy rules up on flash cards and each student would have to get one right before they could go outside to go to recess. I remember using these sound rules a lot before I finally didn't have recall rules to read on my own.
  • Discovery of a wimpy kid

    Discovery of a wimpy kid
When I was in fourth grade, I bought the diary of a wimpy kid at a school bookfair. It was the first time that I can remember reading a book because I enjoyed it and not because I was forced to.
  • Public Libraries

    Public Libraries
When I was in middle school I was an avid reader. I had just decided that I truly enjoyed reading and so my aunt took me to get a library card of my own. I must have read thirty books that summer.
  • Pride and Prejudice

    Pride and Prejudice
I read Pride and Prejudice and Zombies in the summer before I went to 8th grade and my personality has never been the same. This was truly what lead to my current taste in books. Discovery that I adore historical fictions, and this is where my love of romantic books stemmed from. I did go on to read the original and other Jane Austen novels and I think reading these more "sophisticated" books for my age group quickly lead me to become both a stronger reader and speaker.
  • Kindle Unlimited

When I was in high school, I got my first kindle. And with the addition to kindle unlimited I almost never use read paper or hardback books anymore. On average I have been reading about two books a week and I have a variety of options at my fingertips.
  • Shakespeare

    Shakespeare
When I was in a play in high school, I had to thoroughly understand the works of Shakespeare. This allowed me to understand not just older usages of the English language but also helped me understand prose and different forms of poetry. Since studying A Midsummer Night's Dream it has been easier for me to decipher other plays and sonnets written by him as well or any work within the same time period.
  • Baby Books

    Baby Books
Lately I have been reading books for babies and small children to my toddler. They are not hard reads but they are very helpful learning material for my baby. Also its good practice for me reading out loud.
  • Continuing Educations

    Continuing Educations
As I re-enter school, I realize that my written and academic reading skills are a bit rusty. There is a lot of room for improvement but I am getting a little bit better everyday.
