Early listener!
Being read to as a baby/toddler. This created the understanding that reading was both important and enjoyable. -
Elementary School
Being read to in school really allowed me to gain a love for reading. I had great teachers who always kept reading high on the list. -
Life Overseas
We spent a few years overseas, and I always had to read the street signs for my dad when he was driving to help him navigate. I even learned a few road names in Arabic! -
Middle School
Two words: Harry Potter. I realized just how much I loved reading when I found this series. I would wait impatiently before each book release, and stay up all night finishing them. -
High School
I explored different authors and book types. I found new genres that I was never interested in, such as romance (thanks Twilight!). -
Late teens
I started to find myself buying books that friends would talk about. I became obsessed with all books written by Chuck Palahniuk (Fight Club). -
Entering Adulthood
I battled with anxiety and depression, and always thought “how can a book help me?” I still ventured out to look for different self-help titles, and found a surprising relaxation when reading them. -
Becoming a parent
When I was pregnant with my first child, I found parenting books to be boring and silly. It wasn’t until I found a few that laid it out in a plain and blunt manner that I started to read different parenting and behavioral books for fun. -
College
I find textbooks (that are written within the last few years) to be interesting, and actually hold my attention while reading. They have helped me grow as a student, as well as a reader. -
Reading to my son
Thankful for my life of loving to read, I have been eager to share that with my son. He is only 3, and is already starting to sound out words and put sounds together.
