  • "Free School"

    "Free School"
Before this schools were either very expensive, or the family taught the children basics to get them by. Many times children of working parents would not go to "school" long before they had to enter into the work force as well. This free school allowed now anyone to get an education.
  • Christian Wolff

    Christian Wolff
Wolff was able to use his voice stating that people need to attend academic universities in order to understand views and people more clearly. Many of these policies are still being used in the academic world today. Allowing people to gain a clearer understanding of a topic before they decide to head into that field of work.
  • Classroom Books

    Classroom Books
Noah Webster creates a reading, grammar and spelling book that teachers can now use in their classroom. Helping bring order and skills to the forefront of teaching making it more universal for all classrooms to teach ideas that need to be taught.
  • Bill of Rights

    Bill of Rights
With Amendment 10 states are now allowed to create the type of educational system they see fit in their state. This means that states no longer have to abide by the same rules or set the same standards, creating an educational divide we still see today.
  • Readers

    Readers
McGuffey Readers become a widely used reading source for grade 1-6, allowing for a more universal reading textbook in the classroom. These books would set the precedent for future reading books in the classroom making reading more accessible to all children in school and at home.
  • Horace Mann

    Horace Mann
Horace Mann became a revolutionary advocate for free public education. He spoke to the people in a way that made them realize that with free education learning would be able to incorporate social efficiency, civic virtue and character. This in turn should turn American children into judicious, republican citizens.
  • School Time

    School Time
These Carnegie Units are used to determine the amount of hours a high schooler needs in order to graduate. This allows for a universal solution to schools that had trouble deciding of students were allowed to graduate. Students today can now use these units to determine how fast or slow they are going in high school to help them then begin taking college level credits their senior year.
  • Brown v. Board of Education

    Brown v. Board of Education
This is a major case that the Supreme Court decided that shaped history there after. All students black or white are able to work together to create school without segregation. This would then open the door to many more cases that followed creating classrooms not based on race or gender instead focusing on the education and curriculum that is to be taught.
  • March of Our Lives

    March of Our Lives
This large walk brought out students, parents and teachers. Spreading awareness for more gun control especially when it involves students bringing weapons to schools. Movements like this show that people today are no longer afraid of speaking out against what is important to them and what they think the government should see as important.
  • Higher Pay

    Higher Pay
In 2018 we began to see more and more states teachers walkout of their classroom. They are looking to protect public schools and the people who work in them. Teachers are not paid enough nor given enough money per student to adequately do the job at hand. With these walkouts it became clear that state and federal governments need to start funding more into the education system to witness real change.
