Ravages of Oil Spills - 1969
January 1969 there is a massive oil spill in Santa Barbara, California. Witnessed by the Wisconsin Senator, Gaylord Nelson proposes to create a day that will be dedicated to uniting organizations in the plight of creating global awareness of the environment. -

1970 - Earth Day Begins
Earth Day provides public awareness to the state of the planet. A staff of 85 was created and were dedicated to promoting events to inspire 20 milling Americans. -

1980 - Proclamation 4710
President Jimmy Carter proclaims April 22nd as Earth Day. He asks that all citizens observe that day with appropriate "ceremonies and activities".

In 1992 the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) also known as the Rio Summit took place in Rio de Janeiro. Some of the issues discussed in the summit include alternative sources of energy and the growing usage and limited supply of water. -

With the millennium approaching Earth Day focused on global warming and and a push to clean energy. The organization of activists around the world were created by the use of the Internet. -

Although it has been a great challenge to involve countries around the world in plight for the environment Earth Day has prevailed. With the help of Earth Day Network millions of people are involved in the movement to protecting our environment. -

2015 - Paris Agreement
On December 12, 2015 with the cooperation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) the Paris Agreement was created. Under this agreement each country is in charge of determining, planning and reporting what steps they are taking to tackle global warming. -
