    term "blank tablet"meant that children were born with nothing in
    their minds;no knowledge, thoughts, etc. His environmentalism
    theory suggested that what goes on around children and what they
    go through is where their knowledge comes from. Locke's beliefs
    could have impacted early childhood by having subjects to teach
    children, or things to fill up there minds.

    States that a child's mode of thinking is different from an adult and they learn through hands-on experience.

    The Garden of Children (Kindergarten) was created by Friedrich Frobel. He based his beliefs and education on the fact that children are unique with unique needs. He also created Froebel gifts, which were educational toys made especially for kids. He believed that leaning happens through play.

    Maria Montessori created the Montessori school system that is being used in over 4,000 early childhood education programs. Montessori paved the way for the importance of children learning about things that they are interested in. She respected children and saw that they must be respected in order to be taught. She also believed that children learn by using their senses and being hands on in their learning techniques.

    A federally funded program in the United States that gives families access to training and support to create a literate home environment and enhance the academic achievement of their children.

    T.E.A.C.H stands for Teacher Education And Compensation Helps. A comprehensive national strategy helping address the need for a well-qualified, fairly compensated and stable workforce.
  • Provider Appreciation Day first celebrated

    Started in 1996 by a group of volunteers in New Jersey, Provider Appreciation Day is appropriately celebrated each year on the Friday before Mother’s Day. The founding organizers saw the need to recognize the tireless efforts of providers who care for children of working parents. Momentum and support for this event has grown each year and recognition presently includes individuals and government organizations throughout the United States.
