Dred Scott's master moved to a free ststae and then back to a slave state. Dred Scott sued, saying that since he lived in a free state he was a free man. The supreme court said he can't sue because slaves are not American citizens -
Emancipation Proclaimation
Presidental act that freed slaves in the rebelling states. This was the first step to ending slavery in the United States. -
13th Amendment Passed
Constitutional Admendment that ends slavery in the United States. -
14th Admendment Passed
The 14th Admendment offically makes blacks citizens of the United States -
15th Amendment Passed
Gives black men the right to vote -
Plessy vs. Ferguson
Segregation. It says you could have seperate water fountains, bathrooms, schools, train cars, etc. for blacks and whites as long as they were equal.
