Montgomry Bus Boycott
The Story Although Marting Luther wasn't a leading force of the boycott, he did help to inspire the movement. On December 1st, 1955,a lady by the name of Rosa Parks was on the bus riding home when a white man got on and demanded that she move. Parks refused and in turn was promptly arrested. The reaction to this incident was one of the key motivators to the Civil Rights Movment. -
March on Washington
March on Washington On August 28, 1963, a political rally was held in Washington D.C. for jobs and freedom. More than 200,000 Americans attended. The rally was held to shed light on the political and social issues pertaining to African Americans in America. This is where Martin Luther Kings delivered his famous, "I Have a Dream" speech. -

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 This bill made it unlawful for an employer to "fail or refuse to hire or to discharge any individual, or otherwise to discriminate against any individual with respect to his compensation, terms, conditions or privileges or employment, because of such individual's race, color, religion, sex, or national origin." -
King is Awarded Nobel Peace Prize
Nobel Peace Prize At the age of 35, King was the yougest yet to recieve a Nobel Peace Prize. All of the money that he reciecved from the prize, about $54,000, was donated to the Civil Rights Movemnet. The prize honors acts "for the furtherance of brotherhood among men and to the abolishment or reduction of standing armies and for the extension of these purposes.". -
