  • Missouri Compromise

    This Compromise admitted Missouri to the Union as a slave state, admitted Maine as a free state to keep the balance in the Senate, and prohibited slavery north of latitude 36 30' in the Louisiana purchase territory, with the exception of Missouri.

    Caused Vice President John C. Calhoun to resign, and and Ordinance of Nullification, that caused President Andrew Jackson to use military force if South Carolina didn't repeal the Ordinance of Nullification

  • Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Toms Cabin

    Published book in response to the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850. Within two years of being published two million copies were sold worldwide.
  • Kansas-Nebraska act

    Document repealed he Missouri Compromise and helped gain a Republican part.
  • Bleeding Kansas

    This started as a disagreement to decide if slavery should be allowed in Kansas
