    In September of 2011, one of the largest grassroots protests happened in the United States. Thanks to the platforms; Twitter, Newspaper, and just about every social media outlet, a protest in New York City lasted 59 days. Protesting a left-wing populist movement against economic inequality, corporate greed, big finance, and the influence of money in politics that began in in Zuccotti Park.

Ellen had taken a selfie with significant stars and encouraged the audience watching to retweet the selfie posted. Through twitter and broadcast television, this selfie became the most retweeted post on twitter within FORTY FIVE MINUTES.

    In 2014 the viral challenge of pouring freezing cold water over your head was created. Through Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat, this became one of the biggest social media campaigns ever created. The challenge being created for awareness and fundrasing for the ALS community. The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge saw over $100 Million raised. Through people nominating friends and family to also pour freezing water over their head, spread the challenge like wildfire.
