The project was planned by Charles Babbage and Joseph Clement was the machinist the builder. The difference engine was unique as it was the first automated digital device designed to produce calculations of more than 6 digits and was able to store information that could be recalled when needed. 1951- Universal Automatic Computer (UNIVAC) Purpose:- The UNIVAC was the first general purpose electronic digital computer design for business application produced in the United States.

In early 1960s Tom Kilburn executed the supercomputer ATLAS. It was the first computer to employ a technique known as virtual memory which requires slower external memory.
