Americans sank Japanese submarine
An American destroyer sank the Japanese submarine I-501 near Azores, Portugal. They went there because they wanted to spy on the Americans. The submarine was given to the Japanese by the Germans. -
Daddy's birthday
On May 13th, Anne wrote about her daddy's birthday. She told Kitty that her dad had recieved the biography of Linnaeus, a book on nature, a box with decorated eggs, beer, yoghourt and a green tie. -

Air raids
In United Kingdoms, air raids occured over Bristol and a small part of England. There was 91 luftwaffe planes sent by the Germans. At the end of the night, 15 planes were destroyed. -
Jews deported to Auschwitz
More than 50 000 Jews from Hungary and Munkacs were deported to Auschwitz. According to Laurence Rees' book: "Auschwitz, a new history", the first transportation of jews from Hungary to Auschwitz occured on that day. More than 3 000 Jews were on each trains. -
Aggrement signed
In London, our Allies signed an agreements with Belgium, the Netherlands and Norway concerning their administration during the immediate post-liberation period. -
Fight between Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan
On May 16th, Anne explains the discussions that Mr. and Mrs. Van Daan had. They discuss about the war. Mrs. Van Daan thinks the Germans wil win the war because they have a really good army. But, Mr. Van Daan think the allies will win, which causes an argument between them. -
Campaign finished
In the Admiralty Islands, the 6th US army announced the completion of the campaign. They have suffered around 1400 deaths and wounded people. 3820 Japanese people wer killed and 75 were made prisoners. -
Peter and Anne
On May 19th, Anne talks mostly about Peter. She says that he is in need of attention. She also says that she will not let him see her inner self unless he works for him. Now that she has him, she takes a step back. -
V2 test flight
In Polland, a V2 (missile created by the Nazis) made a test flight and landed near the bug river (about 80 miles for Warsaw). Polish workers had to hide the missile before the germans arrived. They wanted to take the V2 back because it was a powerful weapon. -
Attacks in Wadke
In New Guinea, American forces eliminated the Japanese forces near Wadke in order to take the airfield. At the same time, other Japanese forces made a weak attack near Arare. -
Attacks in Italy
In Italy, a lot of attacks occured on that day. First, the US 5th army attacked the Senger line (which is held by the germans). Then, French corps attacked Pico and the Canadian 1st corps attcked Pontecorvo. Finally, the 2nd Polish corps attacked Piedimonte San Germano. -
soaked books
On May 20th, Anne explains that her mom broke the vase with the carnations in it. A lot of Anne's work was soaked, including her algebra book, her family tree portfolio, her writing books, etc. -
West Loch accident
In West Loch in Hawaï, 29 american LST's containing a lot of weaponry were preparing the Operation Forager when an accident happened. Six LST's sank. 163 naval personel died and 396 were injured. -
Mutilation of Japanese
The LIFE MAGAZINES published a photo of an American girl with a Japanese skull sent to her by her naval officer boyfriend. The American soldiers were mutilating Japanese soldiers and keeping the skulls has "trophies". The American population was not okay with that, but the army said it was to scare them. -
Anti-Semitism
On May 22nd, Anne talked about war and anti-semitism. She said that a lot more people are against Jews, including the Christian and the Dutchs. The Christians are against Anne's religion because they have told some secrets to the Germans and some got a bad punishment because of it.
