Diagnosis- People called water tasters would taste the patients urine sample to see if he/she had diabetes. If the urine tasted sweet, they were diagnosed with diabetes.
Treatment- Patients were told to eat a lot of sugar or to just consume animal meats. -

Diagnosis- Doctors created chemical tests to see if the patient had sugary urine.
Treatment- Using a starvation diet and potato therapy which was a method that was able to control the blood glucose levels in diabetics. -

Diagnosis- The Benedict's Solution was created to allow an easier test to find sugar in urine. -

Treatment- Scientist Elliot Joslin stated the best treatment for diabetes Mellitus was to exercise regularly and have a fasting diet. -

Treatment- Insulin was able to successfully treat a human being with diabetes in 1922. -

Treatment- The first insulin syringe was invented, allowing patients to have a better grasp at fighting diabetes. -

Diagnosis- The first tablet to test the urine glucose levels was invented by using test strips in the patients urine. -
Late 1950s
Treatment- Biguanides were created to prevent the production of glucose in the liver. -

Diagnosis- The first glucose meter was invented. -
1972
Treatment- The U100 insulin was created to help fight diabetes. -
1978
Treatment- The first DNA insulin is used on patients with diabetes. This was the creation of genetically engineered human insulin, instead of using it from the pancreas of animals. -
1983
Treatment- Genentech created the first Bio synthetic human insulin and was introduced to the public. -
1995
Treatment- The oral medication called Precose was approved to help people with Type 2 Diabetes. -
1996
Treatment- Fast acting insulin called Lispro was put into the market that is able to lower the glucose levels. -
2000
Treatment- Long acting insulin is produced and can last much longer the previous insulin's, making it much more efficient. -
2005
Treatment- Pramlintide was approved to work with insulin, when patients still aren't getting the needed blood glucose levels. -
2018
Diagnosis- The diagnosis currently for diabetes is a glycated hemoglobin test, random blood sugar test, oral glucose tolerance test, or fasting blood sugar test.
Treatment- The treatment currently for diabetes is healthy eating, physical activity, rapid-acting insulin, and long-acting insulin.
