    Octubre 31st- Grave Decorating
    The grand festivities began the midnight of October 31st, the same day as the American Halloween. We start my visiting and decorating the graves our our beloved lost relatives. We made beautiful wreaths made of marigolds. This is a tradition to honor our loved ones because marigolds are said to attract the spirits. We gave many gifts such as favorite foods of the dead and toys for the dead children.

    We had made and decorated sugar skulls. Sugar skulls are delicious treats made of sugar and decorated with many colors and the name of our deciced loved ones. We eat them in their memory, along with many other dishes such as Pan de Muertos or bread of the dead, which is a sweet egg dread.

    We had spent the entire night holding festivities in the cemetary. We held a picnic in the evening of all of the Day of the Dead dishes. All night we played music, held festivities and told stories of our dead loved ones.

    Calacas are dressed and decorated skeleton figures. They are often dressed in traditional, formal, but creative and colorful outfits. We placed ours out on the streets on display. Soon the whole town was filled with beautiful Calacas that truly showed the spirit of Dia de los Muertos.

    The first day of November in our celebration is known as Dia de los innocentes. This is a very special day because it is specially dedicated to children who lost their lives at such young ages. It is said on this day, the children's spirits come to accept our offerings.

    One of the most exiting customs of our holiday is the fun costumes. It is most tradtional to dress up as in a skelotin like fashion. Painting ones face like a skull is of the most common ways to celebrate. Most costumes are of formal wear, such as suits or dresses.

    Noviembre 1st- The Catrina Parade
    Every year our town holds the grand Catrina Parade. We all dress in our catrina costumes and march upon the streets in honor of Dia de los Muertos. These constumes include painting our faces like skulls with bright colorful makeup, and dressing up in our most colorful and creative outfits for the occasion. This parade is truly one of the highlights of Dis de los Muertos.

    On the last day of Dia de los Muertos all of my family came together to honor our shared loved one. We had a huge celebration with our loved ones favorite foods and beverages. My favorite part of this celebration is all of the wonderful stories we tell about the loved ones we lost. I had the opportunity to learn about and honor many great people who have passed away.

    One of my favorite customs of day of the dead is decorating altars of our decided loved ones. Altars are easily purchased and beautifully decorated with personalized decorations to remember the lost by. We had added the traditional marigolds, and pan de el muerte, we had also added personal touches such as their favorite possessions, colors, and foods.
