    We will go to cemeteries and decorate loved ones' graves with all sorts of things. We will put candles and scents, flowers, and pictures.

    We cook and bake on October 31st to prepare for the festivities.
    The bread is called Pan de Mueartos, bread of the dead. We love to make this so we can enjoy it later on during the festivities.

    We will all come together and visit friends and family at cemeteries where loved ones were buried.

    In Mexico we will spend a good portion of this day making candies for kids. An often tradition we do is boiling syrup made of sugar and water to make a tasty treat called a candy skull for the kids.

    On the second day we will cut out thin pieces of paper with fun designs and hang them up as banners. We call them "Papel Picado."

    The younger kids around our town will dress up in special fun costumes. For girls, it consists of dresses with long flowing skirts and lots of floral attire.

    During this time we will help kids with their elaborate make up or decoration of their masks. This usually consists of looking like a skeleton to honor those who have died.

    All the kids will create and or decorate paper miche skulls. They decorate them with vibrant colors so everyone understands day of the dead is not sad. Being around these skeletons reminds us that death is just a part of life.

    We construct these altars and enjoy the spectacular work on this day. It has vibrant colors, candles and religious symbols.

    Families all around us give offerings to the dead like flowers or special mementos.

    We believe that this flower helps guide our loved one’s soul back to the world of the living, and we use it during this day.
