Kentucky
In 1792, Kentucky became the 1st state west of the Appalachian Mountians. Daniel Boone helped map and explore the land. -
Louisiana Purchace
The french sold land to America. It was called the Louisiana Purchace. On April 30th it was made final. It doubled the size of America! -
Lewis and Clark Leave
In May 1804, Lewis and Clark set out from St. Louis to explore the Louisiana Purchace. They headed up the Missouri river with about 40 other men. They were called The Corps of Discovery. -
Fort Mandan
Lewis and Clark built a camp to stay at for the winter by a Mandan village. They named it Fort Mandan. It is in present day North Dakota. -
Sacagawea
At fort Mandan, the corps hire a fur trader and his wife, Sacagawea, to lead them through the Shoshone lands. -
Leaving Fort Mandan
In spring, the Corps of Discovery leave Fort Mandan. They went up the Missouri River. Sacagawea helped them buy horses from the Shoshone. -
Winter
In the winter of 1805, the Corps of Discovery stay at Fort Clatsop, which is now in Oregon. They left to retern to Missuri in March. -
Pacific Ocean
The Corps of Discovery reach the Pacific Ocean in November. They had to travel 3,000 miles in 1 1/2 years. -
Pike's Peak
Zebulan Pike lead an expadition in the southwest area of the Louisiana Purchace. He saw a mountain and named it Pike's Peak. -
They're Back!
In September they returned to St. Louis. It was easier coming back. They brought back many maps and wildlife.
