    The Minamata Disease was a neurological disease caused by methyl-mercury poisoning in the Minamata bay. Minamata was caused by the discharge of methyl-mercury by the chemical plant “Chisso Co., Ltd” into the Minamata bay, this exposed the nearby marine-life that was then eaten by fishermen and consumers. The people that were by affected by Minamata had severe convulsions, coma, and eventually death.

    Earth day is an annual celebration that appreciates the achievements of the environmental movement such as protecting the environment from pollution and deforestation. The original founder of earth day was Senator Gaylord Nelson. Because there was no EPA, Clean Air Act, and Clean Water Act. There were no legal or regulatory mechanisms to protect our environment, therefore Senator Gaylord Nelson issued this to protect our environment.

    DDT stands for Dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane. It is a colorless, tasteless, and odorless, crystalline chemical compound. It was used for insect control on crops, livestock, homes, and gardens. DDT was banned because of its adverse environmental effects, such as wildlife and human health risks. If a human has too much exposure to DDT it can cause, cancer, diabetes, impaired neurodevelopment in children, and potential infertility.

    Bhopal is a city in the located in Mahayana Pradesh, India. In the middle of the morning the Union Carbide pesticide released 40 tonnes of methyl isocyanate into the open air. 3 thousand people died immediately, 20 thousand people died after a while and half a million people were exposed to the deadly gas. The Bhopal disaster is considered to be the worst nuclear disaster that ever has ever occurred.

    The Chernobyl Disaster occurred in Chernobyl, Ukraine. This event happened because a RBMK reactor went out of control during a test at low power, this lead to and explosion witch created a fire because of this the reactor building released large amounts of radiation into the open atmosphere. This accident caused severe radiation effects that killed 600 on site workers and 106 workers that received high amount of doses of radiation.

  • Deep Water Horizon

    Deep Water Horizon
    In April 20, 2010 an oil drilling rig operating in the Macondo Prospect in the Gulf of Mexico, exploded and sank resulting in the death of 11 workers. This explosion also caused the rig to sink witch created the largest spill of oil in the history of marine oil drilling operations. A total of 134 million gallons of oil had spilled into the Gulf.

    In Japan an earthquake and tsunami occurred, this caused half of the reactors of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant to break causing them to release hydrogen and radioactive materials to the open environment. This caused irradiation of local ocean, food and water.
