Football - The Beginning
A game called ‘pasuckuakohowog’ was played in North America which means “they gather to play ball with foot” it was an important time in history of football because that year it was first introduced. -
Rules
A set of rules was established by Eton college of England this was an important year because rules were finally made for football so the game would make more sense and there was aim for the game. -
Transport
The first railway was the Stockton and Darlington Railway. Which could help football fans and players get to different cities to play football. throughout that time there was more people managing to get hold of a car and more cars where produced which again helped players get from one city to another and play or watch football. -
Cambridge rules
New rules were developed for the game of football also known as the Cambridge rules and it was adapted by schools, colleges and universities that was a big improvement because of the publicity the sport started to get from schools, colleges and universities. -
New rules
The football association made new rules to abandon hand to ball contact this was made so the game of ‘foot’ ball was played by foot and so no hands (except the goalkeeper) would have contact with the ball or it would be a foul. -
International
Scotland v England was the first ever official international association football match to be played. It was contested by the national teams of Scotland and England. The match took place on 30 November 1872 at West of Scotland Cricket Club's ground at Hamilton Crescent in Partick, Scotland. this was an important event in football history as that was what made the euros to this day -
Kits
The four British associations agreed to make a dressing/uniform code for players (kits) this was a big development because it gave teams a look which helped with the audience knowing who is in what team and also brought in some safety equipment such as shin guards to keep the players safer. -
More rules
Introduction of a penalty kick, which had a huge improvement on the football sport as it put people in line not to tackle players inside of the goalkeeper’s box. -
Olympics
Olympic games introduced football that was a big year because football got more publicity and it was played by way more people. -
Agricultural society
After the war the conditions of the workers became lot better they had way more free time and got Saturday as a half day for sports and leisure and more people could participate and spectate sports that was a change in football history because more people could experience sport. -
First world cup
The first world cup took place in Uruguay in 1930 and was played by 13 teams. The first ever winners of the world cup were Uruguay, runners up were Argentina, third place was United States and forth place came Yugoslavia. This was a great improvement in the Football industry as that development led to be one of the biggest events in the world. -
FIFA
(FIFA) is a short cut for The Federation Internationale de Football Association made footballs first World Cup tournament in Montevideo, Uruguay and 13 teams played in it this was a great step for football as people pay a lot of money to see the world cup and world cup is one of the most popular events up to date. -
Back passes banned
Goalkeeper back passes were banned this was good because the team which is winning could constantly pass back to the goalkeeper and by goalkeeper catching it no other player could touch the ball which would be considered (time wasting) and its unfair on the chances on the other team. -
Sky sports
Sky sports was a huge development as that let people watch football all over the world their first deal was in 1992-1997 that was 191 million pounds and it has grown ever since now the deal for 3 years standing at 5.136 billion pounds -
Staduims
Outstanding stadiums were built this was also a big improvement because of the fans they were more attracted to watch the match as it looked nicer, also it is a good tourist attraction and because of the disaster that happened in Heysel stadium in 1985 and by developing the stadiums players and fans can be safer, they can play in the rain as there is protection and a lot more people can now go and watch the match -
Offside
The offside law was changed so that the attacker can be in line with the defender that makes it easier for any team to strategize and more opportunities can be made. -
Goal line technology
The goal line technology was developed because of the officials could not decide of the goal and a lot of controversy started that was good because of the fact that fans could get upset about they’re team loosing as it was unclear was it over the line or not.
