    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    Rosa park’s decision not to give up her seat on the bus and her arrest caused all black people in Montgomery to refuse to ride the city busses. The case was taken all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States.The boycott lasted for over a year. It finally ended on December 20, 1956 after 381 days.

    Integration of Little Rock Central
    Integration of Little Rock Central begin in September 3, 1957. Integration of the schools was tested in Arkansas president Eisenhower sent in army troops to make sure the black students were allowed into the school.
  • First Lunch Counter Sit-in

    First lunch counter sit-in begin in February 1,1960. 4 African American students in Greensboro, NC stage the first lunch counter sit-in at a Woolworths- 1500 arrested.
  • Freedom Ride

    Freedom ride begin in May 4, 1961. Segregation in all interstate travel facilities was banned. Riders were tormented and beaten. Newspaper coverage and the violence provoked JFK to send federal marshals to protest the rides.

There also High school students are hit by a high-pressure water jet from a fire hose during a peaceful walk in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963.

    On Aug 28, 1963, Dr. King gave one of his most famous speeches, titled “I Have A Dream”, at the march on Washington for jobs and freedom. About 250,000 people attended the march to urge support for impending civil-rights.

    The 1964 civil rights act made racial discrimination in public places such as theaters, cinemas, restaurants and hotels, illegal. It also required employers to provide equal employment opportunities. It said that voter registration tests should be the same for black and white people.

He set up committees to improve education, housing and jobs for black people.He made speeches supporting civil rights. In June 1963, Kennedy committed himself to getting a civil rights bill passed and enforced.
