Official opening of the David Florida Laboratory
-
Hermes
The Hermes is a communication technology satalite (direct to home broad cast). The hermes was the first ever satalite D.F Laboratory integrated and tested. -
Expansion
The David Laboratory was succesful enough to exapand its qualification facilities. -
ANIK C2
The ANIK C2 is a satellite that is part of the ANIK series of satellites for television in Canada (live tracking.) David Florida Laboratory helped build and test the ANIK C2. -
BRASILSAT S1 and S2
This Laboratory helped test the BRSILSAT S1 and S2, which are also communication satellites. These satellites had the first international prime conact. -
Olympus
Olympus was another satellite that the D.F.L tested. It was what caused the second expansion. The Olympus was at the time the largest communications satellite ever built, hence the nickname L-Sat (Large-Sat.) -
ANIK E1 and E2
The David Florida Laboratory also replaced these two communication satellites after they stopped sending television signals. -
RADARSAT-1
D.F.L integrated this satellite. The RADARSAT-1 is Canada's first Earth-observation telescope which means it gets pictures of the Earths surface to monitor natural resources and global warming/weather patterns. -
Mobile Servicing System
The MSS is Canada's most important contribution to the International Space Station. It is made up of the Special Purpose Dextrous Manipulator (Dextre), the Space Station Remote Manipulator (CANADARM2), and the Mobile Base System. -
MOST
D.F.L integrated and tested Canada's space telescope that studies the Microvariability and Oscillation of Stars (MOST) -
CMBStar 1
D.F.L tested the American telecommunications satellite which provided mobile video services for the 2008 Olympics. -
Telstar 11N
D.F.L integrated this American communications satellite which provides coverage across North America and Europe. This is when hermal vacuum testing at the spacecraft level was done at the DFL. -
James Webb Space Telescope
This telescope is a joint mission by NASA, ESA, and CSA. Canada is providing the Fine Guidance Sensor (FGS) which is crutial to the telescope's attitude control system. The environmental test campaign for the FGS was done at the DFL.
