Birth
Great day for Mum and Dad, I was born the 1st child of the family. Being the first child, I was only one of three people in my Father's small cottage on the potato farm. My family was happy for my arrival. -
Sailing to America
As I sail, I meet and talk to many people on the boat as we travel. I meet one girl, Adeline, and know we will meet again at some point. We are nearly 3 days into our voyage since father sent me to America. I try not to stir any trouble on board. I hope to land quite soon. -
America in sight
As we approach America, everyone on board gazes at the great statue above the harbor. "The statue of Liberty" I here an older crew member say as he stands on the deck. I stair up at the great monument. Is this truly what America is? A country built on greatness and liberty? I'm glad father has sent me here, I want to belong in this great place -
Ellis Island inspection
Once in America, we had to be checked at this small island called Ellis Island before anyone was aloud to take the ferry to the mainland. I followed the men into the male physical checkpoint. Once up, I was stripped of all clothes, this being kind of odd since we don't do this back in Ireland. Then I was free to go, considering i passed the examination. After that I quickly made my way to the money exchange center. I put in all my money and got $10.00. I headed for mainland to meet my cousin.
