    Financial Problems

    With the financial problems, the past kings had spent more money than they had made which meant they had lots of debt to repay. Also the crops were not good so food prices went up. Jacques Necker was hired to come up with ideas to help. Some of which were reduce spending and have the 1st and 2nd estate to pay taxes. The 1st and 2nd estate refused to pay taxes, so they fired Necker. This caused many riots with the people.
  • Storming the Bastille

    Storming the Bastille
    On Independence Day, the people of Paris hear that King Louis XVI is going to send troops to Paris, and when the people hear this they start more riots. The Bastille is a symbol of authority and abuse. It was a prison for the people that made the King angry. On July 14th, 1789, the people killed the commander and took it over.

    The "Great Fear"

    The "Great Fear" consisted of troops going around and destroying everything in sight, including villages, food, and homes. The answer to stop all the madness was The Declaration of the Rights of Man. This stated that all males equal before law, all had natural rights, (liberty, property, security), and position was based on skills, or merits.
  • Napoleonic Code

    Napoleonic Code
    Napoleon Bonaparte was elected Emperor and with his new position, he stated that, "Order, security, efficiency", would take place of, "Liberty, Equality, Fraternity". There were also new Reforms with the new Emperor. Religious tolerance, peasants are allowed land, jobs are based on talent, food prices drop, and the Napoleonic Code.

    Congress of Vienna
    The Congress of Vienna was meant to make peace. The balance of power involved surrounding France with much other small countries just incase if France ever got bigger and tried to rebel and take over, the small countries surrounding it would be the first to go, so then the other big countries could have time to fight back. The Congress of Vienna was also putting nationalism to a stop and putting monarchs back on throne.
