Navigation Acts
It directed the trade between England and colonies. Colonists must use British ships and British goods. Colonists first accepted, but merchants wanted to sell their own goods instead. Colonists also wanted cheaper ships. Actions of smuggling increased. -
Proclomation of 1763
To prevent fighting between colonists and Native Americans. Also, to keep colonists near harbors to increase trade. Many colonists had already claimed land west of Appalachian Mountains and British ignored claims. Colonists began protesting. -
Sugar Act
Lowerd taxes on molasses products to lower smuggling. Also lets British officers to seize smuggled goods from smugglers without going to court. Colonists belienved it violated their English rights. Also, the Writs of Assistance along with the Sugar Act violated the right to have a jury, which angered them. -
Stamp Act
Places taxes on imported goods, thus being paid on entry. Boycotts started, Samuel Adams started the Sons of Liberty, and all known havoc started. -
Declaratory Act
Stated that Parliament had the right to tax and make decisions for the British colonies "in all cases". Colonists say the acts violates English rights and arguments increase. -
Townshend Acts
Places taxes on imported goods, thus being paid on entry. Boycotts began again and the Daughters of Liberty started. They urged Americans to wear homemade fabrics and boycott British goods. -
Tea Act
Allowed the British East India Company to control tea trade in the colonies and pass colonial merchants who distributed tea. Boycotts began agian and the Daughters of Liberty say "we shall not part with tea again".The Boston Tea Party has been started. -
Coercive Act
Intended for punishing colonists for resisting British rule. Prevents arrival of goods to Boston and takes away English rights. Also, forced Bostonians to let British soldiers to rest in their homes. Led the road to Revolution, calling all milita to arms to protect the English rights. -
Quebec Act
Gives Quebec all right to take the Ohio River Valley, west of Appalachian Mountains. This angered the colonists by having the British ignore their claims. Colonists call the Quebec and Coercive acts, the Intolerable Acts.
