The Missouri Compromise of 1820 was created by Henry Clay that made Maine a state in the U.S.The compromise kept Balence between the slave and Free states. It prevented the two sides going to war. -
The Nullification Crisis 1832
This was an event that was in response to president Jackson making hight tariffs. South Carolina threatened to secede if the tariff was not dropped. Vice president Calhoun said that South Carolina had the right to nullify the law if it was unconstutional. -
Compromise of 1850
The compromise decided wether to make the newly aqquired land from mexico a slave state or a free state. The problem almost put the north and south into war, but thanks to Henry Clay again he came up with a compromise. California was declared as a free state and the restn of the territories had no laws against it. -
Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
This was a law that was established by congress permitting southerners to go and capture any runnaway slaves that ecaped their owners in the north. Many abolitionists were extremy angry at congress for making this law, and said that this law must be illegal in order for slavery to end. -

Dred Scott Decision
Dred Scott was a slave that lived in the free state of illinois and went to congress to gain freedom. Their response was that all blacks including free or not, they could not have rights ever. The missouri was declared unconstitutional but slavery was permitted everywhere in the territories of america. -
Attack on Harpers Ferry 1859
John Brown wanted to convince slaves to rebel against their owners. He planned to capture the weaponry at the army base in Harpers Ferry, Virginia to help the slaves rebel against the southerners. None of the slaves joined him and 10 of his men were killed durring the process. Abolitionists saluted as he was exacuted -
The Election of 1860
The victor of the election of 1860 was Abraham Lincoln. He had no plan to abolish slavery but the south had their doubts. After Abraham Lincoln had been elected for presidency, the south quickly seceded from the union. Begining the civil war.
