The start of ISIS
The group began over two decades ago as a thought in the mind of a Jordanian named Abu Musab al-Zarqawi. Zarqawi arrived in Afghanistan as a wannabe in 1989. He met Osama Bin Laden in 1999', but chose not to join Al-Qaeda. -
Fall of the Taliban
The fall of the Taliban in 2001 forced Zarqawi to flee to Iraq. There his presence went largely unnoticed until Bush used it as evidence that al-Qaeda was scheming with Saddam Huessein. Zarqawi was a free agent, looking to create his own terror organization. -
The rise and fall
Zarqawi had a campaign of sucide bombings all across Iraq and he had won the endorsement of Bin Laden. Zarqawi had merged his newly founded group with al-Qaeda By 2006, Zarqawi had aspired to become a leader. -
The AQI
When the US troop withdrawal was complete, AQI was being run by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Baghdadi took Zarqawi’s tactics and made them alot better. With thousands of armed men, Baghdadi opened a second front against the Shia. Baghdadi overplayed his hand in Syria. -
ISIS Kills Kayla Mueller
26 year old American aid worker Kayla Mueller has been killed at the hands of ISIS. Supporters of ISIS said last week that Mueller had been killed during a Jordanian air strike. The aid worker had travelled to Syria to help provide aid to refugees and the people suffering in the civil war. the U.S. had made an attempt to rescue Mueller, but it was unsuccessful. This shows that ISIS is not afraid to kill those from other countries or get on anyone's badside.
