Castro's Triumph
Batista fled Cuba on January 1st. The Rebels then organized a triumphal march in the island capital of Habana, where Fidel arrived on January 8th. -

First Success: Sierra Maestra ~ US Relationship starts to breakdown
By March, the movement was able to capture the entire Sierra Maestra, and U.S.-Cuban relations changed drastically. On the 14th of that same month, U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower imposed an arms embargo on the island, and without having American parts for repairs, the Cuban air force started to break down. -

Castro's Rebels Offensive
August 21st; after Batista’s “Operation Verano” with 12,000 troops against Fidel, Castro’s rebels organize their own offensive by attacking in 3 columns led by Castro, Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos. -

Castro: Second Failed Overthrow Attempt
December; Fidel Castro and his group of followers, including Ernesto Che Guevara, land in Cuba in an attempt to overthrow Batista's regime. All but 12 fighters were killed or captured. -

A political amnesty freed Castro and his brother Raúl, they fled to Mexico. -

Castro: Failed Overthrown
On July 26, Fidel Castro united a rebel force with systematized plans to overthrow the Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. He led 160 guerrilla fighter for sieging the Moncada Military Barracks at Santiago, many of the rebels were killed and Castro was arrested. -
