Fidel Castro's Successful Revolution
Fidel Castro tried to rebel against Cuban War, the first two times failed. But on the third, he had about 800 followers and he was successful. In 1958, the United States stopped selling weapons to Batista. -
Batista Fled Cuba Government
Castro and his followers overtook the government, pushing Batista out of office. -
Bay of Pigs Operation
This invasion caused the United States and Cuba to be even more orrnery. 1,400 CIA Cuban Refugees went to the Bay of Pigs which is on the southern coast of Cuba. 20,000 of Cuban's military sat on the coast prepared for the invasion. Cuban force captured 1,100 US men. -

Cuban Missile Crisis
This major crisis was the closest approach in history to nuclear war with the Soviet Union. The United States found out about the Soviet nuclear missiles in Cuba, and then Kennedy demanded they be removed. He also demanded a naval blockade of Cuba. The Soviet Union Leader Khrushschev agreed to the demands. -
United States Blockade
Unites States issued a demand to Soviet Premier Khrushchev that all missiles be removed from Cuba. The United States Navy sent submarines and warships to the Carribbean to establish the blockade. The United States ordered 22 planes be into the air because of the chance of Cuba launching an immediate attack. -
A Settlement is Reached
Kennedy and Khrushchev exchanged many messages, and both did not want to back down. But, they also refused to go in war. Khrushchev agreed to stop sending missiles to Cuba and he agreed to send the rest to the Soviet Union. Kennedy then agreed we would not invade Cuba and also agreed to remove United States' missiles from Turkey. -
Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty
United States, United Kingdom, and Soviet Union signed it in Moscow. This treaty banned all testing of nuclear weapons, unless conducted undeground.
