John and Elizabeth talk
John and Elizabeth Proctor talk about the affair and how John needs to go to town to state the truth about Abigail. -
Mary Warren shows up
Mary Warren returns to the Proctor house. Proctor is furious that she has been in Salem all day, but Mary Warren tells him she will be gone every day because she is an official of the court. She informs John and Elizabeth about the trials and that 39 people have been accused.Mary Warren states that Elizabeth was accused, but she defended Elizabeth and the court dismissed the accusation. John forbids her to go to the court again but she refuses. -
The Poppet
Mary Warren gives Goody Proctor a poppet that she had made earlier that day in court. -
Reverand Hale Shows up
Reverend Hale visits the Proctor house. Hale tells Elizabeth and Proctor that Elizabeth was named in court. Hale tells Elizabeth that Abigail accuses Elizabeth of being a witch using the poppet Mary gave Elizabeth. -
Hale questions the Proctor's loyalty
Hale questions Proctor about his poor attendance in church. Hale asks Proctor to recite the Ten Commandments. Proctor can only recall nine and Elizabeth reminds him of the one he forgot — the commandment forbidding adultery. -
Elizabeth gets arrested
After finding the poppet in the Proctor's home Elizabeth Is aressted for witchery and is taken to Salem. Abigail set her up by putting a needle in the poppet and a needle in her own stomach to look as though Elizabeth's spirit had done it to Abigail. Elizabeth makes John promise to come get her.
