  • First time I saw a SMARTboard, no more ELMOs in class

The date is only a rough estimation, but I remember around my 4th grade year was the last time I saw a teacher use an ELMO projector, and instead they used a SMARTboard that sometimes needed recalibrating. It was the first time I saw someone write on an electronic board using a pen that had no ink. From here on, almost every time a teacher or professor wrote something down, it was either with a SMARTboard or some other projector that usually required a laptop.
  • Freshman year of high school: Students are given laptops

Until this point in my life I had considered the computer as a privilege you only used about once a month. Having your own personal computer provided by the county BOE made it clear that learning to use the internet and operating a computer were crucial to being successful in the adult world.
  • First time I used Kahoot

This may come off as no big deal, but the first time I was able to take my phone out in class to play a fun game as a test review, I genuinely thought I was living in the future. I had been used to low budget jeopardy and low quality teacher made "fun" review games, but Kahoot was the first ever universally loved game that students and teachers loved.
  • The rise of COVID-19 & the Rise of Zoom

The rise of COVID-19 & the Rise of Zoom
The COVID-19 pandemic forces society to shut its doors, dramatically limiting the amount of non-mandatory face-to-face interactions. Zoom is established as the preferred method of video-chats and is used in many contexts, from talking with friends to a virtual classroom setting. Meetings can be scheduled on Zoom if face-to-face isn't feasible.

  • ChatGPT is released

    ChatGPT is released
ChatGPT is released in 2022 and has both positive and negative effects. My teacher mentor last semester uses ChatGPT to help make quality test questions, but plagairism becomes infinitely easier for students/harder to spot for teachers.
