    Sack of Rome

    Because of its geographical location, the city of Rome was sacked in AD 410 and several times later in the century. The western emperors, howeverm moved the captol of the Western Empire from Rome to Ravenna in AD 403, hoping that this city on the Adriatic Coast, south of Venice, would be less easily attacked than Rome.
