  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    -Stamp act: Law passed by Britain on the American Colonies requiring a tax on all printed paper goods.
    All paper materials such as newspapers, legal documents, bills, almanacs, dice and playing cards were all to be taxed and were required to have a special stamp on the item. The colonial leaders reacted strongly against this because it violated their new policy "No taxation without representation". It was later repealed in 1766.

    Intolerable Acts
    -The Intolerable Acts: A series of acts passed by Britiain in order to punish American colonists after the Boston Tea Party.
    The Intolerable acts were a series of laws imposed on colonists after the Boston Tea Party. Two of the laws under the Intolerable Acts were the Quartering act, which required colonists to shelter and provide for British soldiers in the are, and the Quebec Act which extended Canada's border into the colonies cutting off Connecticut, Massachusetts and Virginia.

  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    -Lexington and Concord were two major military conflicts in the Revolutionary War.
    The result of these conflicts marked the begginning of the Revolutionary War. The major generals for the British were Lord Percy and General Gage. Paul Revere was given the task of lighting lanterns at Boston's North Church, 1 if the British came by land and 2 if by sea. He was also charged with delivering news of the British invasion that would soon occur.

    -Second Continental Congress: This was the second meeting of patiriot leaders in which they met in Philadelphia and form the Declaration of Independence.
    During the Second Continental Congress, colonial leaders like Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and John Adams came up with the idea to write a Declaration of Independence and begin provisioning for a Continental Army in order to cement the colonies will to be free.

    The Declaration was written by the Second Continental Congress, more specifically Thomas Jefferson, and the major parts are the Preamble, List of Grievances and the Declaration itself.

    -The Articles of Confederation were the nation's first Constitution.
    The Articles of Confederation stated that John Hanson was to be the first president of the United States. There were 3 successes to the Articles in that it allowed the coinage of money, signing treaties and to declare war. 3 weaknesses were a lack of power to tax, enforce laws and a lack of central leadership.
