  • Battle of San Jacinto

    Battle of San Jacinto
    On April 21st, 1836, the Texan army that was under Sam Houston attacked Santa Anna's army. They attacked Santa Anna's army on the banks of the San Jacinto river. There was cries that people heard about, with them saying to remember the Alamo, God, and Texas. This battle only lasted a total of 18 minutes. It was a resounding victory for the Texans.

  • Pastry War

    Pastry War
    The pastry War started in 1838, and ended in 1839. It was a brief and minor conflict between Mexico and France. It started because of a claim that a French pastry cook lived in Tacubaya, near Mexico City. The biggest claim was that some of the Mexican army man, went and damaged his restaurant.
  • Supreme court rules out Amistad slave ship mutiny case

    In 1839, 53 enslaved people that were captured from Africa left Havana, Cuba, to go to Puerto Principe, Cuba. They were taken there for a life of slavery on a sugar plantation. On July 2nd, the slaves rose up and killed the captain using sugar cane knives. Judge Andrew Judson, on January 13th, 1840, ruled that the slaves were illegally enslaved and would not have to return to Cuba.

    The high plains Comanche tribes of central and west Texas had been fighting the frontiersmen for years. But with smallpox, the war with Arapaho and Cheyenne and conflicts with Texas Rangers, the leaders agreed to enter Treaty negotiations. The negotiations didn't not go well, and ended up with 30 Camanches and 30 more imprisoned killed.

    Britain's first act of the war, was to occupy Hong Kong. A sparsely inhabited island off the coast that was southeast of China. Following that, China ceded the island to the British. In 1842, the treaty of the Nanking was signed. That treay being signed, formally ended the First Opium War.

    The Mexican-American war started in 1846, and didn't end until 1848. During this war around 25,000 Mexican soldiers died, and 15,000 American soldiers died. The only reason the war ended was because of the signing of the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo. This Treaty was signed on February 2nd, 1848, in the city of Guadalupe Hidalgo.

    The Kansas - Nebraska act allowed settlers in territories of Kansas and Nebraska. Those 2 states had to pick whether they wanted to allow slavery or not. The Republican party started in response to open the Northern territories to slavery

    The civil war first started in 1861, and it didn't end until 1865. The civil war was Americas bloodiest and most divisive conflict. During the civil war about 620,000 people died, and millions more injured.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Battle of Antietam
    The battle of Antietam is considered the deadliest one-day battle in all of U.S history. The Union won the battle, and it gave president Lincoln a lot of confidence, and he then announced the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. Lincolns purpose of the announcement was to threaten the rebels to join the Union again. He said that if they would not join the Union, he would let all slaves be free.
  • Sand Creek Massacre

    Sand Creek Massacre
    November 29th, 1864, Chiefs Black Kettle, Left hand, White Antelope, and other groups were encamped. Around 750 Arapaho and Cheyenne people were in a valley that was close to the Big Sandy Creek. It was a super tragic day for the Arapaho and Cheyenne groups, and a painful memory for generations of Native Americans.
