The first electronic general purpose computer was invented. Able to do math problems that were harder than people could before, it was a wondrous machine. -

One of the greatest inventions in the 20th century, the transistor controls signals and helps in the creation of computers. -
FORTRAN Language
The first programming language that was highly successful. It led the eventual creations of other languages, and it is still used in computers now. -
The Integrated Circuit
A "chip" can be a small object that contains many circuits, allowing easier and smaller circuitry in a computer. -
Spacewar
The first computer game was invented, leading to some of the modern games that we have now. -
ARPAnet
The original Internet was invented. It is the ancestor of the global network we have now. -
Floppy Disk
The invention of the floppy disk, able to store data outside of the main computer, and transport it. -
Microproccesor
The invention of the first microprocessor. Important because it has a lot of important circuits on a very small part of the computer. -
MS-DOS
The new operating system, Microsoft Disk Operating System, was released. This led to Windows, which began the competition between Microsoft and Windows.
