  • Analytical Engine

    Analytical Engine
This was a giant machine that could store numbers. It was accurate to six decimal places.
I thought this was really cool because I didn't know they had any concept of computers in the 1800s.
  • First Computer Program

    First Computer Program
Ada Lovelace's notes on the Analytical Engine included an equation that we recognize as the first computer program.

Computer programs are important because they are how we do most stuff on the computers.
  • Vacuum Tubes

    Vacuum Tubes
There was no air in the vacuum tubes which protected their circuitry.
This was a great invention that helped with the advancement of computer technology.
  • Z1

    Z1
The Z1 was the first mechanical computer without gears. It also used binary code.
I chose to include this because it was the first of what I would consider more modern computers.
  • Colossus

    Colossus
The Colossus was used in WWII to break codes.
I included this in my timeline because this computer showed people that more than just math problems could be solved using computers.
  • Spacewar

    Spacewar
This was the first computer game invented. This made it so that computers could be used for entertainment, not just work.
  • The Mouse

    The Mouse
Why the mouse wasn't invented a long time before this is a mystery to me. The mouse is how we do pretty much everything on computers.
  • E-mail

E-mail is one of the main things we use the Internet for and is how we communicate with each other.
  • Portable Computer

    Portable Computer
The portable computer made this new technology more available to the public.
This was important because normal people were able to use the technology.
  • World Wide Web

The World Wide Web was released to the public in 1991.

This is very important to the history of computers because one of the biggest things we use computers for is the internet.
