Computer's history

  • Period: to

    The first mechanical computer

Created by Charles Babbage, the father of computers.
In 1812 he created the Difference Engine, which could solve polynomial ecuations by the mtehod of differences. He later built a smaller version of the machine for demonstrations (in 1822)
A decade later (in 1833) he tried to build the Analytical Engine, "the first real predeccesor to a modern computer because it had all the elements needed to be considered one". This idea was never fully developed.
  • World's first computer program

    World's first computer program
By Ada Lovelace, the daughter of the noted poet Lord Byron.
She and Charles Babbage were friends. Transtating a French paper of the Italian Luigi Menabrea she added a lot of words of her own, and realised that the Analytical Engine was able to carry out an large sequence of mathematical operations. The sequence she wrote about how to calculate Bernoulli numbers is considered as the first computer program
  • First printing calculator

    First printing calculator
By Swedish inventor Per Georg Scheutz and his son Edvard.
It was the first machine that performed operations and then retained its results on printed form.
  • The Differential Analyzer

    The Differential Analyzer
The first large-scale automatic general-purpose mechanical analog computer, by Vannevar Bush.
It was designed to be able to solve differential equations by integration, using wheel-and-disc mechanisms to perform this task.
  • The Turing machine

    The Turing machine
    By mathematitian Alan Turing.
A machine that operates on a strip of tape and is able to implement any computer algorythm.
It basically reduces the logical structure of any computing device to its essentials. It has the ability to read, write and erase information that comes trough the tape with given instructions and operations.
  • The ENIAC: the first electronical computer

The ENIAC: the first electronical computer
Invented by John W. Mauchly and J.Presper Eckert during World War II.
It was designed specifically for computing values for artillery range tables, altough it was still the most powerful calculating device to ever exist.
It was given instructions and performed them electronically. The only big drawback was that it took some days to solve problems.
  • First computer language

    First computer language
    By Alick Glennie.
It was first developed in 1949, and called Assembly lenguaje, but it was later renewed by her and called Autocode.
The language allowed everyone to be able to "talk" to the computer, making it able to give it information in a way in which it could later process and give a solution.
  • First laptop

    First laptop
Introduced by Adam Osborne and EPSON.
It was the first actual computer that could be moved around and carried built-in printer. It was not the first one that people could carry, but it was the most similar one to what we have today.
  • Wi-Fi is developed

    Wi-Fi is developed
This gives computers new advances and functions, really similar to the ones we have now.
