Pilot ACE
Donald Watts Davies joined Alan Turing and built the fastest digital computer in England called the Pilot ACE. The design was approved in 1946, but it didn't run it's first program until 10 May, 1950. It had a clock speed of 1 MHz, and for a while, it was the fastest computer in the world. In total, about 30 were sold. This is important because it was a huge break though in technology at the time, and after a while, it led to many more great discoveries. -
Hideo Yamachito
On September 19th 1950, The first electronic computer is created in Japan by Hideo Yamachito. After people saw that it was possible to create an electronic computer, they began to work on their own versions of it. This is how electorninc computers got started, and it is important because with out Hideo Yamachito and his team, technology today might not be as advanced. -
First transistor computer
Bell Labs introduces its first transistor computer. There were a lot of advantages of transistors compared to vacuum tubes. They were smaller and quicker and they used very little power compared to vacuum tubes. This is important because They helped people who used computers work quicker and more efficiently. -
First computer game
It took Steve Russell & MIT about 200 hours to write the version of Spacewar. They used an interactive mini computer to display the game. This was cool because no one else had invented a game before and it was an accomplishment for computers. -
The Computer Mouse
Douglas Engelbart creates and uses the first computer mouse. He allowed people much easier access to using computers. He invented other things for the computer too, like windows. The mouse is very helpful because it allows people to click on things instead of just typing. -
Email
Ray Tomlinson invented email in 1971. He created the ability to send simple messages to another person across the network. The first email was sent between two computers right next to each other. This is important because it was a way for comminication through computers. -
Apple
Apple was invented by Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. The Apple I was the first computer to use a single circuit board. This was a great invent because it started the Apple computers and eventully led up to the Apple computers we have today. -
Microsoft
When the IBM PC running MS‑DOS ships, people start using their computers for daily work. MS‑DOS is very effective, but many people son't understand how to use it. This is important because it makes computers more helpful for work and everyday things. -
