    In China, this is an important gadget as it allows people to visualize numbers and be able to do addition and subtraction.
  • 87 BCE

    Antikythera Mechanism

    Antikythera Mechanism
    An invention by Greeks that performed different functions. For example, it was able to chart movements of planets and the sun. Also, it was used to add and multiply numbers.
  • Schickard Calculator

    Schickard Calculator
    This was a calculator was built by William Schickard. It was able to perform functions like adding, subtracting, multiplication and division. There are only sketches of this calculator left.
  • Pascaline

    Pascaline
    A calculator that could perform addition and subtraction. It was the first calculator that was produced and used by more than the creator. It was also used for taxes.
  • Babbage’s Difference Engine

    Babbage’s Difference Engine
    This was a computer invented by Charles Babbage. It was supposed to be able to perform complex functions and simple ones like addition and subtraction but it was never released/completed.
  • Z3 (Konrad Zuse)

    This computer was used for arithmetic calculations. It was used for a small amount of time because it was destroyed in a Berlin bombing two years later.

    John Vincent Atanasoff came up with the ideas and Clifford Berry helped built it from 1939 to 1942. It held basic ideas to create a computer which would hold a great influence for future computers.

    It was created by Howard Aiken, a professor in Harvard, room-sized machine used as a calculator. It was able to produce mathematical tables, and it was made up of thousands of components.

    The Electronic Discrete Variable Automatic Computer was created by John von Neumann. It was designed to store programs because it would have more storage than any other computer that existed.

    Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer was built by John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert. In its time, it was over 1,000 times faster than any other computer. It was believed it did more operations in its time working than what humanity had done until that time.

    This mainframe computer system allowed computers to work together. This machine targeted businesses and scientific functions. It even helped NASA send man to the moon.

    The first video game that was sellable. It is a simple game of ping pong where two players pass a ball from each side using paddles. This game marked the beginning of arcade video games.

    It was a new computer kit created by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. It was featured in Popular Electronics and it became known as a personal computer.

    It was much better than other PC at the time, having the Microsoft MS-DOS operating system. It was widely copied or cloned because of the competition.

    The Macintosh Computer was the first computer that was successful having a mouse and it also had a graphical user interference.

    It is the first smartphone created by Nokia. It was a really big and heavy. Many people used it and it won many awards.

    It was used to go against people who had previously won the game Jeopardy! It defeated two of the best players by analyzing the questions and answering them faster than the humans were possible.

    It has many features an iPhone has, (downloading music, games, and other entertaining apps). The difference is that the iPad has a bigger screen, but isn’t used for calling others.
